Award Ceremony

Well another season has come to an end. The team got together tonight for an Awards Ceremony & Banquet to remember a great season.

A great season. No, I'm not talking about the final record of the 2009 Encinal Jet Varsity Softball Team when I say great season. I'm talking about the fact that these girls really came together as a team this year. They worked well together. They worked hard. And they learned a lot about the game of softball from their coaches Rachel & (Sam)antha. And they had a good time win or lose.

With the exception of our one departing Senior, Napua Holgerson (you'll be missed), I wouldn't be surprised to see all of these girls back together again next season. It was a pleasure to watch the girls grow this season, and I can't wait for next year.

Jets vs Piedmont Highlanders

In the final game of the year, along with a tribute to Napua Holgerson (our only senior & team leader), the Jets beat the Piedmont Highlanders 4-0.

Making sure we would miss her bat as well as her leadership, Napua drove in the first Run of the game with a BOOMING TRIPLE to Right Field scoring Regina Kim who had Singled. Regina had 3 Hits on the day; Scoring 1 Run & Driving in 1. Regina also Stole 2 bases. Caylie Bahr went 1-4 with a Run. Caylie also played her phenomenal shortstop, catching anything near her. Kayla Simonson went 1-2 with a Run and a Walk. Kayla also made a diving catch to ROB a Piedmont batter of a Hit. Napua Holgerson went 1-3. Lachelle Laulu-Finley went 1-2 with an RBI.

In the pitching department, Michelle Gorman dominated the Piedmont batters, allowing only 4 Hits on the day. Michelle Walked none & Struck-out 10, including the last 5 batters she faced.

Nice game Jets. Way to go out on a high note!

Thanks to Don Costa for the game report.

Jets @ St. Mary's Panthers

In what was probably the most exciting game of the year, the Jets lost to St. Mary's 3 - 2 in 8 innings.

Neither team was able to score for the first 5 innings, but in the 6th Regina Kim led off with a DOUBLE & Scored on a Michelle Gorman Single. St. Mary's promptly went ahead in the bottom of the 6th Scoring 2 unearned Runs. Encinal tied the game in the 7th on a clutch RBI-Single by Lachelle Laulu-Finley, but that was the end of the Jet scoring. St. Mary's scored the winning Run in the bottom of the 8th with 2 out.

Regina Kim went 2-3 with a Run scored & also made an unassisted double play, snaring a line drive at 3rd & beating the runner who was on 3rd back to the base. Kayla Simonson went 2-4. Napua Holgerson went 1-4. Michelle Gorman went 1-4 for with an RBI. Lachelle Laulu-Finley went 1-1 with an RBI. Nice defensive plays were also turned in by Taylor Webber in Left & Sophia Williams in Right.

In the pitching department, Kayla Simonson pitched the complete game striking out 3 & Walking none while giving up 6 Hits.

Thank you Don Costa for the game report and keeping up all the stats!

Jets vs Kennedy Eagles

Jets lose to the Kennedy Eagles 3 - 9. The Kennedy team had some big bats that were the difference in this one, knocking in at least 2 Homeruns (I missed the first 3 innings and it was 6 - 1 when I got there). The Jets rallied for 2 in the 7th, but couldn't get any closer than that.

Jets @ Salesian Pride

The Jets forfeited the game as they didn't have enough players to field a team. With only one week left in the season, this game won't be rescheduled.

This is a really sad way to lose a game.

Jets vs Holy Names Monarchs

The Jets took out their frustrations today, pounding hapless Holy Names 12-0. Holy Names was quite generous, issuing 14 walks along with a hit batter to go with our 6 Jet Hits.

Six different batters got 1 Hit each: Regina Kim, Napua Holgerson, Michelle Gorman, Kayla Simonson, Bhanni Singh & Taylor Webber. Taylor led the RBI parade with 3, followed by Michelle with 2. Bhanni, Kayla, Jaimi Cooks & Desire Jackson had 1 RBI each.

In the pitching department, Kayla Simonson pitched a complete game shut-out, allowing NO Hits & only 1 base runner on an error. Kayla struck out 7 batters while walking none.

Good game Jets!

Thank you Don Costa for the game report and stats.

Jets @ St. Patrick/St. Vincent Bruins

On a windy, rainy day, the Jets traveled to St. Patrick/St. Vincent for what amounted to batting practice for the Bruins. St. Pat's overwhelmed the Jets, winning by a final of 15 - 0 in a game shortened to only 3 innings.

Lachelle Laulu-Finley & Regina Kim each got 1 of the two Jet Hits. Sophia Williams made 2 fine catches of line drives to left field.
